The template controls the fit
Yacht berths are rarely true rectangles. Curves, tapers, clipped corners, cabinetry and access panels make a physical template more reliable than basic length-and-width measurements. The approved template should define the final footprint and orientation.
Balance comfort with available space
A thicker mattress is not automatically a better mattress aboard. Height can affect overhead clearance, berth access, drawers and surrounding trim. Comfort should be engineered through the internal construction while respecting the vessel’s geometry.
- Preferred firmness and sleeping position
- Mattress height and overhead clearance
- Hinged or split access requirements
- Ventilation beneath the berth
- Ease of movement through doors and companionways
Plan bedding at the same time
Custom sheets and protectors should follow the same approved geometry. Coordinating the mattress and bedding together reduces fit problems and lets the stateroom palette be considered as a complete design.
Confirm the delivery path
Before production, verify how the finished mattress will move from the dock to the berth. Tight companionways, turns and door openings may require a split or hinged configuration even when the berth itself could accept a single piece.
